Love Drops.......In-to Each Other!

I was listening to the radio the other day.  The host was Dr. Laura Shclessinger, a caller called in and mentioned something about her husband's dream person.  Let me explain, the caller said that she asked her husband, " What would be the perfect woman for you?"  When her husband responded he gave her several examples of what the perfect woman was, from his perspective.  Well, in his response he did not mention her. This left her feeling like he did not desire her.  While she was on the phone with Dr. Shlcessinger she explained the above situation.  She also elaborated on how that made her feel.  It sounded like she was dealing with some feelings of rejection.  Dr. Shclessinger said to her, "You asked your husband a question and he gave you his answer, not your answer.  Now you are up-set because he did not answer the question the way that you thought he should.  When day dreaming or using our imagination our thoughts take us usually to what we perceive to be perfect.  When it comes to our imaginations we all imagine the perfect person, however, there is no such thing."  I definitley agree with that even if we came into contact with the person that we imagined to be perfect, we would then realize that that person is also flawed.  (This quote from Dr. Laura is not a word for word comment-response, but it is the spirit of what she relayed to the caller)

Who wants the perfect person in a marriage?  I do, I do!!!  If we married the perfect person neither of us would have to grow. We might as well get over it because the truth is we all have cracks.  I was at my doctor's office recently and I saw a beautiful cascading pot made of clay.  It was a fasinating item to set your eyes upon.  The closer I got to the vessel of clay (the cascading pot) the clearer I could see the cracks in the body of the vessel.  Although it had cracks it still was a beautiful vessel of clay.

This is how our spouses are.  As we become close to one another our cracks are much more obvious.  Areas where we each need growth and improvement are seen much clearer .  Marriage consist of two imperfect people coming together sharing their strengths revealing their weaknesses.  Each person has the opportunity to benefit from the other's strength.  Therefore, there is no lack.  And the scripture comes to life, "In other words our covenant partner posseses strengths that we lack." As iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend. (NLT Prov. 27:17).  We also possess strengths that they lack.  Here we have the opportunity to pour into one another; just as the cascading pot is arranged so that each vessel benefits from the other.  We as husband and wife connected to the Master Builder, God, pour into one another.  We have opportunity to share gifts, talents, wisdom, knowledge and understanding from a practical and spiritual bases.  All because God decided to pour into us.

When we look at our spouse see them by the lenses of the word of God.  Speak life into their souls.  Have a faith vision for your spouse.  See their potential and encourage them to be the best that they can be.

Love Drops.........Spouse Faith Vision
Write down 2-4 things that describe your faith vision for the other.

  •  Example
  1. My spouse is a person of mercy.
  2. My spouse is a person of integrity.
  3. My spouse loves his/her children.
Ask the Father how He sees your spouse.  Be careful not to make your list from self centered motives.  But, practice going before the Father and asking what His Will is for your spouse.
